ABOUT ME

Debbie has been painting for over 25 twenty years. She undertook most of her training in Canberra at the Canberra Institute of Art through open access in the early 1990s. and has continued her experimentation in water based medium since then.

Debbie starts each annual solo with a series of charcoal and pastel sketches. She sketches in the field or works from multiple photos taken at different times of day and works up her finished ideas about the landscape plants and birds in the studio.

Most of her subjects come from her walks around the Mount Cooth-Tha National Park and Botanical Gardens and her travels around Australia. The birds and Flowers outside her window in her Brisbane home as well have been captured in movement.

Debbie is inspired by the Early Expressionists and Fauvists of the early 1900’s. Artists like Vincent Van Gogh, and, Alberto Giacometti and more recent Australian Artists like Margaret Woodward, Reinis Zusters and Brett Whiteley. Her work explores possibilities of the quick gestural mark in acrylic and mixed media while maintaining balance and harmony in composition and outcome.

Debbie’s work had been recognised in National and local

competitions and her work is increasing in popularity each year being held in many private collections.
